Chinese fashion designers Yueqi Qi and Didu are expanding their presence in Japan through collaborations with XGALX, a Japanese entertainment company known for producing the hip-hop/R&B-inspired girl group XG. Yueqi Qi, a Guangzhou-based designer and LVMH Prize semi-finalist, has been gaining recognition in Japan. She showcased her Fall 2023 collection at Tokyo Fashion Week, presenting a fusion of 1960s psychedelia and Y2K aesthetics, highlighted by intricate embroidery and innovative fabric techniques. The show took place at Kissa-Seibu, a traditional coffee shop in Shinjuku, adding a nostalgic ambiance to the presentation.
In addition to runway shows, Yueqi Qi collaborated with GUESS to launch the "Love·GUESS" collection in May 2024. This series revisits retro aesthetics, blending them with innovative designs to capture the youthful and edgy personality of the new GUESS GIRL line.
